Help make cards for charities

No automatic alt text available.

About this time last year we were spending a fun morning making 70 cards with one of the Paper Angels, Zena Kennedy for Nth Qld Rural Family services.
Zena is the recipient of our Inaugural Woman of the Year award. She is always holding card making sessions to stock up on her various charities that she is involved in. Zena is always in need of many hands to help her make these lovely cards, so if you would like to have a creative morning or afternoon she can be contacted by emailing herzenakennedy@lizzy.com.au.

No experience in card making is required as she will lead you step by step. Just ask our President Liane, she had never created a single card and it wasn't long before she was pushing them out.

Delivery of goods to Aged Care Facility at Nth Stradbroke

On Tuesday, Janette and Lyn, on behalf of Quota Carindale, boarded the 7:00 am Big Red Cat heading for North Stradbroke Island.  Here we were to deliver donated aged care goods and a special chair to the Nareeba Moopi Moopi Pa Aged and Frail Hostel at Dunwich.

As the big Red Cat arrived way in advance of the appointment time for the drop off of the donated goods, breakfast at Point Lookout was on the agenda.  Arriving at Point Lookout it was seen that the ocean wasn’t happy.  Rough seas were breaking across the rocks and the surf beach was far from tempting for a quick dip.  Heading for the CafĂ©, a seat with a great view allowed for a most enjoyable breakfast.  After breakfast it was back to Dunwich to deliver the goods to Nareeba Moopi Moopi Pa.

North Stradbroke Island view from the Gorge walk on a better day

On arrival, Nareeba Moopi Moopi Pa exudes a calmness and peace.  On entering the building with the donated goodies, a staff member sought out the Care Manager who welcomed Janette and Lyn.  She greatly appreciated the donation of the aged care goods and was very grateful to receive the chair.  This chair is one that is used at the dinner table and doesn’t move as the person sits in it even though it is on wheels. Once seated, the occupant can move it by walking their feet towards the table until the ideal position is reached.  To get up from the table, the occupant walks the chair backwards until well clear of the table and then pushes down on the arms of the chair to lift themselves out of it - a very, very useful chair.

After farewelling the Care Manager, the next port of call was North Stradbroke Island State School.  Quota Carindale had previously supported this school’s chaplaincy service and as the school was in the process of appointing a new chaplain, Quota Carindale contact details were left with the school administration with a request that once appointed the chaplain contact Quota Carindale.

Once the business with the school was completed, it was time for a little R & R before boarding the Big Red Cat for the return journey.  Brown Lake was the chosen venue.  A beautiful spot to relax and absorb the peace emanating from the Lake and its surrounds.  A picture is worth more than words and here is a photo of Brown Lake, such a tranquil place to relax.

We love that our cheques help

Our Change over event is not only for welcoming in any new members and changing our committee roles. It is also the time that we present our awards and cheques to the well deserved charities that we have been raising funds for all year.

We have been supporting CleftPALS QLD Inc. and Asperger Services Australia Ltd.  We were again delighted to present them both with a cheque to help in their work. As well as these we are now happy to be able to say we could present a cheque to Cindy Corrie from The Sycamore School - Autism Friendly Learning to help.

We also welcomed a special young boy to receive a donation. Kein is in yr 6 at Belmont State School, he fixes computers and gives to children who need one. What a wonderful caring young lad.

Steve Minnikin MP also attended our gathering as he does each year and it was wonderful to hear how he feels about our work and it makes us feel very proud of what we do.

Filling our Buckets of Love

The 89th Convention for Quota International is being hosted in Brisbane and the Service-on-Site project planned for this year is Buckets of Love.

Quota International is partnering with the Combined Women’s Refuge Group to support women’s shelters for women and children victims of domestic violence. Two representatives from Combined Women’s Refuge Group will attend on Sunday morning to receive Quota’s “Buckets of Love” and tell us a little of their work.

Quota Carindale has painted their bucket, making it look extra special, thanks to a very talented niece of one of the Quotarians.

It has now been filled with light women's night wear, children's pyjamas, children's books, games and puzzles.

Wow a big thanks

The invite just went out yesterday and 4 people responded. Zena had her studio set up and each person was shown how to make a card. One of the ladies had never made a card in her life before and she only took a few minutes to master it and looked like she had been crafting for years.

We even had beautiful hand made envelopes, donated by one of our Paper Angel friends. Thanks Liz Collett they looked beautiful.

Zena had set up 3 stations, each station had a different card. The ladies made a few each of the cards at each station and then moved to the next one.

We had an absolutely  fun, productive day, all up 72 cards made, envelopes matched and packed in cello bags ready to go.

A very, very big thank you to all that came to help. This is only the first of many, so if you are keen to help, please contact Zena so she can organise the next free card making day.

Craft and Gift Fair

Every year  we the Quota International of Carindale  Club holds a Craft and Gift Fair
This year is going to be even bigger as they have moved to a bigger venue. The new venue is the Carina PCYC. The entire building and the grounds will be used for the Fair.

Inside the main hall...
There will be the usual Craft stalls, where you will be able to purchase handmade goods. There will be something for everyone, jewelry, craft products and kits, sewing materials, wood turned objects and ready made products. A great way to get the Christmas list filled.

Some of the exhibitors will be demonstrating their wares throughout the day at their stands. I for one love standing and watching creativity in action.

Also in the main hall you may be lucky enough to win one of the half hourly door prizes. If they are not claimed don't despair the lucky number gets put up on a board and you can claim it at any time throughout the day.

At the end of the day, you could be the lucky winner of a Sewing Machine. This is our door prize donated by River City Sewing. You must be there at the time of drawing.

On Stage...
11am - A fashion parade will be showing beautiful fashions by Sobidah . As it is coming up for Melbourne Cup you might find something for the big day.

 On Stage Presentations...

Quota Carindale visits Wishart Village

This afternoon the members of Quota Carindale were accompanied by students of Cannon Hill Anglian College and visited Wishart Village.

The students provided an arrangement of musical items and this was followed by afternoon tea which is supplied by the members of Quota.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment.

While we were there it was a pleasure to sing Happy Birthday to Lila who turns 100 on Monday 9 September.  It is hard to imagine all the changes that she has witnessed during her life to date.

Hails and Farewells

What a month of comings and goings here at Carindale!

We have welcomed Liane to our group to join with us in supporting our local charities and in the fun and fellowship we have in the process.  We wish her many years of enjoyment and enrichment.

Sadly Sheila has left us after over 22 years of service to enjoy her retirement on the Sunshine Coast.  We wish her well and have suggested that she needs to keep the kettle handy as we drop in to share our Quota stories with her.
