Filling our Buckets of Love

The 89th Convention for Quota International is being hosted in Brisbane and the Service-on-Site project planned for this year is Buckets of Love.

Quota International is partnering with the Combined Women’s Refuge Group to support women’s shelters for women and children victims of domestic violence. Two representatives from Combined Women’s Refuge Group will attend on Sunday morning to receive Quota’s “Buckets of Love” and tell us a little of their work.

Quota Carindale has painted their bucket, making it look extra special, thanks to a very talented niece of one of the Quotarians.

It has now been filled with light women's night wear, children's pyjamas, children's books, games and puzzles.

Build a Bear fun

Another successful holiday program for children was held yesterday at Build-A-Bear Carindale. Great to see the children having such fun filling their bear and picking out the clothes to dress the bear to take home.

This is what the children made.

Buckets of Love

Quota International has a yearly convention and is hosted world wide.
This year everyone will be heading to Australia.
At every convention a Service-on-Site project is planned and this year, Quotarians will help to provide Sound Beginnings for Children in South East Queensland. Quota International is partnering with the Combined Women’s Refuge Group to support women’s shelters for women and children victims of domestic violence. Two representatives from Combined Women’s Refuge Group will attend on Sunday morning at general session to receive Quota’s “Buckets of Love” and tell us a little of their work.

These buckets have been filled with items such as light women's night wear, children's pyjamas, children's books, games and puzzles. Quota Carindale felt they would make their bucket a little bit extra special by hand painting it.

Let’s all help to make our “Buckets of Love” a project that will empower women and children at a time in their lives when support is needed most.

Wow a big thanks

The invite just went out yesterday and 4 people responded. Zena had her studio set up and each person was shown how to make a card. One of the ladies had never made a card in her life before and she only took a few minutes to master it and looked like she had been crafting for years.

We even had beautiful hand made envelopes, donated by one of our Paper Angel friends. Thanks Liz Collett they looked beautiful.

Zena had set up 3 stations, each station had a different card. The ladies made a few each of the cards at each station and then moved to the next one.

We had an absolutely  fun, productive day, all up 72 cards made, envelopes matched and packed in cello bags ready to go.

A very, very big thank you to all that came to help. This is only the first of many, so if you are keen to help, please contact Zena so she can organise the next free card making day.

The year begins

2013 – what a wet start to Quota Carindale’s 25th year as a service club.

Our club began this year on a busy note starting in January with a Sausage Sizzle held at Masters, and in February, with a get-together of members for an Afternoon Tea.

On 2nd March, twenty of Quota Carindale members and their friends braved the bad weather to attend a Trivia Night fundraiser at the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre. The fundraiser was organised by Alpha Beta Phi Chapter members (another women’s community group) and colleagues of Stampin’ Up in order to raise monies to help in the support of a family whose husband and father was tragically killed in a car accident in January.

Despite the bad weather, a good turnout was received 175 people turned up for a fun night. Raffle and door prizes were donated by various organisations in the community, one such prize being a Bar Fridge.

The night consisted of rounds of questions based on a theme, in this case, the 80’s. Topics ranged from sports to movies to music to general knowledge. Games were also played including, who could make the best paper plane and how far could it fly. The winner was a gentleman who was able to manoeuvre his plane the full length of the function room. Participants if they so wished were asked to dress as their favourite 80’s character or in their favourite 80’s clothing. The winner was out of Miami Vice. A light supper was also provided. Monies raised was in the vicinity of $5000.

Although our two tables did not feature in the top 3, a very enjoyable night was had by all and I guarantee everyone went away looking forward to the next one. If you are interested in helping within the community and having fun at the same time, please contact us.

And now here are the winners of the Trivia night. Don't they look happy and a little suprised?
