Update from the President of Quota International of Carindale

2014 has started off as a busy year for the Carindale Club. In January we held our first get together where we planned some of the events the club would be holding this year, either as fund raising events or social events. During this meeting a parcel we had been waiting on arrived, this was a Broadmaker Studio program which was being donated to a young autistic boy who was starting Prep in 2014, so we were pleased to be able to deliver this communication programme in time for his first day of school.
To start off February we held a sausage sizzle to raise more funds, also during this month members of Quota celebrated the 95th birthday of Quota International.

March saw a very successful Trivia Night at the Abruzzo Club, Carina, where funds raised are for the clubs in the Philippines for the disaster relief program.

This book is based on the true story from the 2010/2011 floods when this little tugboat became an Australian hero. Our Quota Carindale member Caroline was one of the co-authors. Congratulations to all involved. If you would like to purchase this delightful book, all you need to do is contact the Mater.

Update on the Philippines

Below is an email sent to all Quota members on what is happening to assist in the Philippines. Please check back often to see how you can help.

Dear Members,

First and foremost we are thankful that Quotarians are safe in Cebu Province, Iloilo, Negros Oriental/Dumaguete, Legazpi/Albay, and Metro Manila.  So many of our members world-wide have asked how they can help.

Beris Pritchard, our South Pacific Area Liaison, has been in communication with Governor Connie Garcia, Lt Governor Bernadette Galang, and Past Governor Emilie Simon from District 41.  Their club members are actively reaching out to help in any way they can.

As you can imagine, there are many details involved in providing assistance during a monumental disaster and these details take time to sort out.  Although we all would like to respond immediately in times like these, please be assured that Quota’s caring will be needed for a long time as they rebuild their lives and communities.  The International Board of Directors is in the process of putting a long term Disaster Policy in place.  In the interim time, both the Board and Staff are working through the process of how best to assist those in the Philippines.  Clubs will be advised shortly on ways to offer support.  Please know that we are working as quickly as we can to provide additional updates on how you might assist.

Sincerely,
Quota International Board of Directors and Staff

Quota Club news from the Philippines

Beris Pritchard OAM, the SPA Liaison Officer for Quota International Inc. has received a number of queries about the Quota Clubs in the Philippines and how they have been affected by the massive typhoon. She would like to update everyone on the status of these Quota Clubs and how they are helping.

The centre of the massive typhoon this weekend hit Leyte Island which is the damaged area being seen on TV and it is south of Cebu. The Quota Club and members are not in the direct area, but P/Governor Emilie said the wind was extremely scary right up in Manila.

President Christi has facebooked that the Cebu South members were providing food for 100 children in a shelter in Cebu – Dunkin Doughnuts, Apple Juice and bottomless mango icecream!

The Cebu Clubs have only just finished distributing bags of rice and other food items to the areas affected by the earthquake – they have had more than their fair share of disasters in recent weeks.

It is at times like this that Quota Clubs all over the world need the public's support. All monies that is collected goes directly to the affected areas. If you would like to help in some small way please contact us if you would like to help.

Quota Carindale visits Wishart Village

This afternoon the members of Quota Carindale were accompanied by students of Cannon Hill Anglian College and visited Wishart Village.

The students provided an arrangement of musical items and this was followed by afternoon tea which is supplied by the members of Quota.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment.

While we were there it was a pleasure to sing Happy Birthday to Lila who turns 100 on Monday 9 September.  It is hard to imagine all the changes that she has witnessed during her life to date.
