What we had going OnStage

Our first On Stage presentation was a presentation by Dr Kathleen Berry she presented  Fashion Design and Pattern Making. Whatever your body shape or size, she showed us how you can create garments that make you look good and feel great.

This presentation was followed by a fashion parade showing the beautiful fashions by Sobidah. Not only did we see the fashions we were able to try them on and purchase them on the day. As it was coming up for Melbourne Cup they incorporated some cute little fascinators in the parade, which came from another stall holder Alison Clark.

Anyone looking for that special piece to top off their Melbourne Cup outfit? It was hard to go past these breathtaking hats from Alison Clark.

After lunch we said hello to Zena Kennedy and heard her presentation on Let's Start at the Very Beginning. What ever hobby that you have there are always the starting items that you will need. She shared with us the basics of card making and how to gather a starter kit together. It looks like you don't need everything after all. This was very informative.

Our mini Book Fest

The extra space in the building allowed us to have a Mini Book Fest in the Front Room.  For the avid reader this was a great bonus, a Craft and Gift Fair to find some special Christmas gifts and then grab some books on the way out.
One lady was lucky enough to find a book she had been searching for since she was 14 years old. It was called Booran and she had read it at school and wanted her grandchildren to read it. She was delighted with her find. Maybe some of you found the book you had been searching for. We would love to hear. Leave us a comment at the bottom of the page.

Did you know, PCYC Carindale was built in 1998 as part of the redevelopment of the Woolloongabba Precinct which included an existing PCYC that was knocked down to make way for the now Gabba Cricket Grounds. Its catchment area covers a diverse population from south east Brisbane to the Gateway and beyond. The team of passionate and committed staff and volunteers work tirelessly to actively engage youth in structured activities and programs. Surplus income generated via club operations is reinvested into ongoing youth programs focused on leadership, self-esteem and crime prevention.

Proceeds from the Bookfest went to this organisation.

Build a Bear party - a gift of cuddles and comfort

Remember when you were a child and had a very special friend? May have been a soft toy or a special blanket. A favourite activity of Quota Carindale is raising money to give a group of foster children a visit to build-a-bear for their own special friend. Janette Taylor had the great idea after visiting Build-a-bear with her own grandchildren. She asked around and was directed to Mercy Family Services. They have foster children placed all over Brisbane, and when we settle on a day, ten excited children come bouncing through the door accompanied by their foster parents. We have a pre-selected bear and the children can choose their colour, plus your donation allows for an item of clothing. Could be a pair of trousers, a tee shirt or a tutu.

A red satin heart is kissed, whispered to then sewn into the bear which the child has named. A special box is then provided to take home their new friend.

It's a very heart warming activity as you can imagine. We hear from the social worker that some little children still sleep with their bear 12 months later.

Often these children have to be taken from home in very frightening circumstances. Everything familiar is left behind.
A very special bear is cuddles and comfort.

Your donation of $25 for one bear (or $50 for two ) is a wonderful gift.

We want to do four parties this year. Would you like to help?

Please contact qicarindale@gmail.com one of our members will give you more details on how you can help.
